GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Multi-Purpose Building Custodian is responsible for the general up keep of the building by ensuring that the building is suitable for visitors on a daily basis by keeping the public areas neat and tidy.  The Custodian also assists with the set up for specific events that may be taking place in the facility with clean-up duties following.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

 

The Custodian for the Multi Purpose Building reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

 

AREA OF SUPERVISION:

 

Positions which generally report to the Custodian for the Multi-Purpose Building include:

None

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

 

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures Manual, and the Recreation Department Operation Manual.
  • Ensures that the main gymnasium, bathrooms, dressing rooms, weight room, running track, Elders Room, Youth Center, Library and Administration Offices are clean, neat and tidy.
  • Inspects the gym after use and plans cleans duties around the condition of the facility after use.
  • Cleans bathrooms daily, disinfecting the sinks, toilets and floors.
  • Cleans dressing rooms if used.
  • Sweeps and mops floors daily.
  • Washes bleachers after use.
  • Empties and cleans out garbage cans.
  • Collects bottles and cans for recycling.
  • Ensures lights are shut off and all doors are locked daily.
  • Replaces bathroom supplies such as toilet paper, hand towels and soap as required.
  • Maintains an inventory of janitorial supplies.
  • Vacuums areas as required.
  • Cleans mops and cleaning equipment once a week.
  • Strips, waxes, and seals floors at least once a month.
  • Cleans windows thoroughly at least once a month and as required.
  • Cleans storage rooms once a month.
  • Washes walls and cleans out vents several times a year.
  • Sets up tables and chairs in preparation for events in the Multi Purpose Building as required by the Recreation Department.
  • Performs light maintenance work such as painting or stripping baseboards as required.
  • Cleans back stops.
  • Reports any vandalism or suspicious activity.
  • Reports any maintenance problems such as faulty plumbing.

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

 

  • Should be highly organized and be able to manage your own time.
  • Should be physically fit and be able to be on feet for a complete shift while constantly bending, stretching, walking and lifting or moving things.
  • Should be proficient and have initiative and to work independently.
  • Should be detail oriented.
  • Possess some general knowledge of cleaning methods and supplies.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Should be detail oriented and be able to work as part or a team.
  • An ability to communicate in Blackfoot is an asset.

 


Qualifications

  

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • The ideal candidate must have a minimum of Grade 12 education with demonstrated abilities to perform the required duties with a minimum of two (2) years related work experience. Must also have WHIMIS training and a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Must Submit a current child intervention check and criminal record check
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a reliable mode of transportation.
