Job Description





The Plumber Assistant performs gas and plumbing repairs, maintenance, servicing and installations to all homes and any other buildings within any area of responsibility. All work will be completed in accordance with National Plumbing Code, Regulations, procedures and standards and the National Gas Code B 149-1.




  • The Plumber Assistant reports to the Gas Fitter/Plumber.




  • Positions which generally report to the Plumber Assistant include:

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Personnel Policy Manual and the Blood Tribe Housing Department Operational Policy and Procedures Manual.


  • Knowledge and ability to complete repairs and installation, in accordance with Plumbing and heating codes


  • The incumbent must liaise with all support services and any issues relating to the effective delivery of repair services.


  • To work effectively with Members and Tenants and implement the aims and objective of homes.


  • Track material used during service calls or work projects for resupply.


  • Read and understand the site health and safety policies, Ensure all rules and regulations are being followed while working on site.


  • Undertakes fast response to all types of gas repair, servicing, installation and maintenance work associated to gas repair.


  • Liaise with all customers with view to encourage local residents or service users to take a greater interest in their environment.


  • Undertakes all work in accordance with applicable Gas Safety Regulations, Electricity at work regulations, Building Regulations, Codes of practice.


  • Be aware of all performance indicators and performance levels required of the role of the Plumber Assistant.


  • Ensure any follow up or additional work is identified correctly to the Void Inspector, this will allow work to be organized correctly.


  • Responds to emergencies.


  • Assists with any other duties as assigned.


  • Work effectively and in coordination with other trades, contractors on work sites.


  • Must be willing to further education in the trade through the Alberta Apprenticeship Program.


  • Attend and take a positive role in the Appraisal Meetings and training as required.


  • Attend and participate in Team Meetings, Toolbox Talks and one on one meetings.






  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of the computer.


  • Basic electrical knowledge is essential.


  • Must have excellent organizational, filing and office procedural skills.


  • Must be a team player and able to work as part of a team.


  • As a public servant, must be able to carry out duties and responsibilities promptly and courteously and maintain professionalism at all times.


  • Must be highly motivated with excellent initiative and an ability to work independently, with minimal or no supervision.


  • Knowledge of the Blackfoot culture and an ability to communicate in the Blackfoot language would be a definite asset.







  • The Plumbing Assistant, must be a 2nd or 3rd year Apprenticed Plumber and must be able to provide documentation.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 year’s experience in Plumbing.
  • Must have a valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and a reliable mode of transportation.
