GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Team Lead assists with the responsibility for the day to day operations of the daycare. They will ensures proper supervision of children along with on-going program planning for all play areas, including Pre-toddler/Toddler/Preschool.  They will work effectively with all staff, families and children and provide leadership with the philosophy of the Daycare as well as quality childcare services.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: 

  • KDC Team Lead reports to the Child Development Supervisor

AREA OF SUPERVISION: 

  • Child Care Workers; Child Care Cook

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures, the Family and Community Support Services Daycare Policies, the Alberta Childcare Licensing Rules and Regulations, and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Will supervise children individually or in a group setting in one of the play areas, Pre-toddler, Toddler, Pre-school, during in-door and outdoor play, meal and nap times to ensure a safe environment.  
  • Will cover staff/child ratio’s when regular caregiver is away or will designate a caregiver to cover the staff/ child ratio where needed.
  • Will assist in the day to day operations as well as be the In-charge person when Child Development Supervisor is not on site.  Child Development Supervisor will appoint someone in the event the In-charge person is away.
  • Always maintains confidentially.
  • Maintains open communication with FCSS staff, Caregivers, Parents, and children
  • Always maintains professionalism with Parents, co-workers, the community and those in Authority. 
  • Planning and Assisting with the long- and short-range activities in accordance with the curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
  • Ensures the Social, Physical, Intellectual, Creative, Emotional (S.P.I.C.E) needs of each child are met and the goals set for them are being reached
  • Encourage Child Development Assistants and/or volunteers to contribute to the curriculum’s weekly/monthly planning.
  • Coordinate Field Trips and prepare fieldtrip forms and information needed to be distributed to each play area for caregivers who will ensure they are properly signed by Parents, Grandparents, and/or Guardians.
  • Assist with plans as per children’s observations.  Ensure the plans are ongoing and properly concluded and filed.
  •  Assist in the preparation of bi-annual assessment/report of children’s development to ensure there is on-going communication with caregivers and parents.
  • Assist in the preparation of setting up meetings regarding Caregiver-Parent-Grandparent-Guardians.
  • Ensure information is filed properly such as children’s files, Accident-Incident reports, miscellaneous records, anecdotal reporting, medication records, and children’s sign/in out sheets.
  • Ensure caregivers are signing in/out on Attendance Sheets according to the Alberta Childcare Regulations Act.
  • Assist in preparing order forms for any damaged toys, material and equipment that need to be purchased to be forwarded to the Child Development Supervisor to be approved and ordered.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training.  Keeping minutes to ensure they are printed and posted.
  • Shares views in the preparation of weekly menu plans to ensure there are printed menu’s available to the cook. May need to assist with the purchase of food if cook is away from work.
  • Assists with the planning and setting up of parties and meetings to secure facilities and equipment needed.
  • Assist caregivers in finding appropriate information, pictures, or material needed for their programming on-line or Childcare learning material or books.
  • Assist with the enrollment procedures and the Parent orientations.
  • Will encourage an awareness and understanding of Native culture and the Blackfoot language.
  • Any requests made by the Child Development Supervisor regarding the effectiveness of the daily operations.

Qualifications

  

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a level 2 Child Development Worker Certificate
  • Standard First Aid Certificate and training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Child and Infant CPR
  • Must submit and updated Criminal Record Check with a Venerable Sector Search.
  • Must submit a updated SYME Check
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
