SHELTER ATTENDANTS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The Homeless Shelter Attendant is responsible for the maintenance of the Moses Lake Homeless Shelter.  Participates in the performance of service care plans; interacts with clients and staff in a positive and supportive manner. Maintains an activity log for accountability requirements. 

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

 

-            The Homeless Shelter Attendant reports directly to the Acting Office Manager, FCSS

 

AREA OF SUPERVISION:

 

-            Positions that generally report to the Homeless Shelter Attendant include:

                               None

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

-            Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures and the Family and Community Support Services Operations Manual.

 

  • Establishes a close working relationship with the Homeless Shelter staff on all tasks and duties.

 

  • Responsible for the cleanliness and general upkeep of the Moses Lake Homeless Shelter.

 

  • Responsible for maintaining an inventory of equipment and cleaning supplies and reports to the Manager on supplies to be ordered.

 

  • Maintains a detailed journal of activities in the building.

 

  • Should be able to provide some basic counselling to the cliental

 

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Be highly motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A good understanding of Native culture and issues.
  • Should be able to communicate in Blackfoot.
  • Ability to respond to crisis situations
  • Basic Computer skills and knowledge also, would be an asset to have some maintenance experience
  • Must be willing to attend trainings for position

 


Qualifications

 

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • A grade 12 education, with 2 years related working experience working with the under privileged

 

  • A recent Criminal Record Check

 

  • A valid CPR/First Aid Certificate
