Job Description



The Health & Safety Manager plans, organizes, coordinates, coaches, implements, monitors and reports on the health and safety of the workplace to ensure compliance with OHS guidelines. Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the incumbent is responsible for achieving the environmental, health and safety objectives through the application of well-developed management and planning.





In addition the Health & Safety Officer:

  • Reports directly to the Plant Manager
  • Maintain close working relations with Plant Employees.





  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies.
  • Supports the development of OHS policies and procedures.
  • Establishes a safe work place according to health and safety standards.
  • Conducting root causes incident investigations and monitoring follow-up activities to ensure timely completion.
  • Identifying, developing and implementing incident prevention processes and strategies.
  • Performing manufacturing plant inspections, identifying corrective and preventive measures and follow up.
  • Evaluating work place procedures to revise current physical demand and job safety analysis.
  • Assisting the HSE department with continual improvement of the management system.
  • Acting as a resource by providing expert advice to various groups on solving issues and concerns with respect to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and BTA policies and procedures.
  • Conducting regular research on new trends and developments in worker’s health and safety compensation and the environment.
  • Coordinating and reviewing the analysis of accident and injury data; identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs.
  • Oversees installation, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
  • Stops any unsafe acts or processes that are dangerous or unhealthy. 
  • Initiates and organizes OHS training of employees and contracts when necessary. 
  • Inspects premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity.  
  • Other duties as assigned.


Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation and policies.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials or practices.
  • Ability to write detailed reports.
  • Ability to analyze data and statistics to provide advice and reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of safety management information systems.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Diligent with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.



  • Relevant post-secondary education or a Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety with a minimum of 5 years of health and safety work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable mode of transportation.
