1 Year Term (with possible extension) - 2 Positions

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The Handi-Transit Driver operates and provides transportation for those individual Blood Tribe Members that have special needs whose disability prevents them from using public transportation with safety and dignity and promoting independence.  The Handi-Transit Driver provides safe efficient and courteous transportation to clients in the Blood Tribe Community. 

                

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

 

-                The Handi-Transit Driver reports directly to the BT FCSS Officed Manager

 

AREA OF SUPERVISION:

 

-                Positions which generally report to the Handi-Transit Driver include:

                               None

 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures and the Family and Community Support Services Operations Manual.
  • Operates and drive buses in a safe manner using sensitivity to all passengers.
  • Schedules their routes of service from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Handi-Transit Driver will maintain a professional, dignified decorum.
  • Transports special needs students to and from school, including youth.
  • Keeps adequate daily maintenance records of their unit operation expenses to assist the accounts payable process.
  • Maintains the Handi-bus vehicles maintenance services on a regular basis and ensures proper repairs to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Ensures the Handibus vehicles are inspected on a semi-annual basis.
  • Ensures the safety sticker is visible on the Handibus vehicles.
  • Ensures that the Handibus vehicles have the Operating Authority Certificate.
  • Maintains a daily passenger logbook/manifest, detailing pickups, time of departure, time of arrival, mileage, incidents and other pertinent information for the data and statistic reporting.
  • Passengers requiring assistance will be helped with door-to-door service.
  • Ensures that guidelines, policies, and procedures for operating a Handibus and Handibus Services are followed to reduce liability.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all clienteles.
  • Attends staff meetings and training and development sessions as required.

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

 

  • Must be patient, with good health and vision.
  • Be able to drive defensively.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Have good writing skills for reporting purposes.
  • Possess good computer knowledge.
  • Be able to remain alert and maintain a high level of concentration.
  • Be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public from the first passenger of the day to the last.
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and treat clients with dignity.
  • Should possess a good understanding of Native culture and issues.
  • Related experience in a Native organization is an asset.
  • An ability to communicate in Blackfoot would be an asset.

 


Qualifications

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • The ideal candidate must possess a Class 4 driver’s License and two years related work experience.
  • Must submit an updated drivers abstract.
  • Must be able to attain an “S” (School Bus) Endorsement and a CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must be able to attain the Alberta Transportation Safety Certification.
  • Must submit an updated criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
  • Child Welfare Check (SYME)
