Job Description
Term - 6 Months
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The accountant is responsible for all financial records of the of the Distribution Account. The incumbent ensures that the Department Director is aware of the financial status of the programs and assists in developing a program budget for distribution.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to the Director
AREA OF SUPERVISION:
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures Manual.

Oversees the financial records of the Distribution/per capita payments.
-
Informs the Director of the financial status of the Membership and Distribution programs.
-
Prepares tenth-working day financial statements for submission to the Director, which include financial statements, bank reconciliations and cash flow statements.

Prepares and analyses the General Ledger of the accounts, prepares adjusting journal entries and enters them into the computerized General Ledger Account.

Prepares sub-ledger reports as required.

Monitors the program budgets, including revenues and expenditures.

Prepares reports regarding the financial position of the department including balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow forecasts on computer spreadsheets for submissions to the Director. Ensures all information is current and accurate and is updated monthly.

Assists the Director in preparing the annual program budgets.

Attends the Finance Staff meetings

Data entry is required and ensures that all files are updated for accuracy

Any other duties assigned.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Must be efficient and have a thorough understanding of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (G.A.A.P.).

Must have a high level of organizational and record keeping skills.

Good interpersonal and good verbal and written communication skills.

Must have a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
-
Must be diplomatic and courteous when dealing with the public.

Must have the ability to act responsibly and ethically when working with sensitive financial information.

Possess a working knowledge of computer and computer accounting software programs such as (Sage -Accpac), Micro Soft Word and Ac Pac & Excel.

Must possess a good understanding of our Native culture and issues.
Qualifications
NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
-
Must have a Business Administration Diploma in accounting with a minimum of 3 years related working experience.

A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Must provide a current Criminal Record Check.

Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable mode of transportation.
