GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Food Bank Intake Worker position involves working directly with food bank clients and assisting in the client food hamper intake, and distribution process. Assistance includes, intake of foodbank donations, distribution of food hampers, along with maintenance of the foodbank facility to ensure cleanliness, safety, and security. This position organizes the layout of space in the foodbank to ensureoperational efficiency and proper storage of food.This position will also provide leadership for volunteers, maintain client database, and submit weekly foodbank stock and activity reports to the Foodbank Coordinator.

                         

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

· The Food Bank Intake Worker reports directly to the Foodbank Coordinator.

 

AREA OF SUPERVISION:

· Positions which report to the Food Intake worker are:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:           

· Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Blood Tribe Administration Policies and Procedures and the Family and Community Support Services Operations Manual.

· Monitors food product stock levels and liaise with the Foodbank Coordinator to request re-stock of food and other provisions as required.

· Adheres to the Food Banks Canada and the Food Banks Alberta Food Safety Procedures.

· Maintains individual client files on database.

· Ensures all donated and purchased food is sorted and shelved immediately, preventing food spoilage.

· Compiles food hampers in order to ensure basic nutritional needs are met through foods packaged in the hamper.

· Supervises volunteers as they compile hampers.

· Hands out food hampers to clients based on need.

· Picks up any donated or purchased foods when requested.

· Assist with the purchasing and receiving of food products.

· Attends food bank meetings as required.

· Performs clerical duties such as writing memos and completing application forms as required. 

· Cleans, sweeps, mops, and cleans counters, shelves, refrigerator, and freezer in order to ensure cleanliness in the food bank facility.

· Performs other related duties when required.

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Good written and verbal communication and numeracy skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, managing time and tasks effectively.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to gather and present statistical information.
  • Knowledge & understanding of food security initiatives.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on their own.
  • Must be highly motivated and creative.
  • Must be dependable and have initiative.
  • Must be able to lift items over 10-20 lbs.
  • Must be proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and treat clients with dignity.
  • Must be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public.
  • Must possess a good understanding of Native culture and issues

Qualifications

NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a Certificate from Alberta Health and Wellness Food-Safe Sanitation for Food Handlers and one (1) year’s related work experience.
  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have a Class 5 driver’s license and reliable mode of transportation.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR training.
  • Must submit an updated Criminal Record Check.
