POSITION SUMMARY:
The Niitsitapi Language Strategy Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of the Blood Tribe Chief and Council’s Niitsitapi Culture and Language Strategic Plan. The position helps move key priorities from planning into action by coordinating activities, supporting partnerships, organizing meetings and community engagement, tracking progress, and maintaining implementation records.
The Coordinator works closely with leadership, Elders, language teachers, departments, community partners, and external organizations to support language revitalization priorities, including language programming, development support for language resources and tools, implementation workplans, and related strategic initiatives. This aligns with the plan’s priorities around a Niistapi Language Act, language app, language hub, and implementation workplans.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

The Niitsitapi Language Strategy Coordinator reports to Nadine Tail Feathers, Blood Tribe Administration.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Strategic Plan Implementation
-
Support implementation of the Niitsitapi Culture and Language Strategic Plan and related workplans.
-
Help organize priorities, activities, timelines, and follow-up actions.
-
Track progress on key initiatives and prepare updates for leadership and relevant working groups.
-
Identify implementation issues, risks, or delays and bring them forward for direction.
2. Project and Program Coordination
-
Coordinate language-related projects, meetings, workshops, and community activities.
-
Support delivery of language classes and other learning opportunities.
-
Coordinate schedules, logistics, records, and follow-up actions for assigned initiatives.
-
Maintain organized files, meeting notes, implementation trackers, and supporting documentation.
3. Elders, Teachers, and Partner Coordination
-
Work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, language teachers, and community resource people.
-
Coordinate communication and scheduling with internal and external partners involved in language revitalization work.
-
Support advisory groups, committees, and working groups related to language strategy implementation.
-
Ensure engagement processes are organized, documented, and respectful of Blood Tribe cultural protocols.
4. Initiative Support
-
Support planning and coordination related to major strategic priorities, including:
-
development of a Blackfoot Language Act
-
development of a Blackfoot language app
-
development of a Blood Tribe Niitsitapi Language Hub or Resource Centre
-
development of partnerships with language providers and educational institutions
-
Assist with gathering information, organizing meetings, documenting input, and supporting next steps on these initiatives.
5. Community Engagement and Communications
-
Support community awareness and engagement activities related to Niitsitapi language revitalization.
-
Help coordinate meetings, presentations, information sessions, and other communication activities, where needed.

Assist with preparation of notices, summaries, updates, and implementation materials.
-
Promote coordination across departments, entities, and community partners.
6. Monitoring, Reporting, and Administration
-
Prepare progress updates, summaries, briefing notes, and other implementation-related documents.
-
Maintain project records, schedules, and tracking tools.
-
Assist with administrative coordination and approved project documentation.
-
Support collection of information needed for reporting on strategic goals and performance measures.

Knowledge of Niitsitapi language revitalization and cultural preservation.

Experience supporting culturally grounded initiatives, committees, or community engagement processes.

Experience preparing reports, meeting materials, workplans, or progress updates, briefing notes.

Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills.

Ability to speak or understand Niitsipohssin is an asset.

Some evening or weekend work may be required.

Travel will be required.

Qualifications
NECESSARY TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
-
A Degree in Indigenous/Native Studies, Education, Linguistics, Community Development, Project Management, Language Revitalization, or a related field.
-
A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
-
5 years extensive experience in a coordinator’s role; project coordination, program coordination, administration, community development, or strategic implementation.
-
Experience working with First Nations leadership, departments, community organizations, Elders, and partner organizations.
-
Must have a valid driver’s licence and a reliable mode of transportation.
